Institutional Evaluation

The Institutional Evaluation Subcommittee oversees the re-development and implementation of the Institutional Evaluation Framework for BC Colleges and Institutes. In doing so, it must recognize the distinctive nature of each of the 22 institutions which make up the public college, institute and agency sector; each has its own institutional culture arising from its program mix, history and the economic, social and physical geography in which it exists. These differences are highly valued by the sector. The committee is completing the design and implementation of the new Institutional Evaluation Framework.

Institutional evaluation can best be characterized as "that set of ongoing, planned information-gathering and analysis activities undertaken to provide the institution with an appraisal of its current state and a basis for future planning and direction." Building on over twenty years of institutional evaluation in BC’s colleges and institutes, the SCOEA has developed the present Institutional Evaluation Framework. It is designed to contribute to the institution's accountability to both institutional Boards of Governors, as representatives of the community, and to government, as representatives of the people of British Columbia.
